Guys. Have you played Bioshock Infinite?

It.Blew.My.Mind.

For those who haven’t played it, you are imbued with certain powers after drinking potions called Vigors. This specific Vigor is Murder of Crows, because of the way you can launch a literal murder of crows towards a target. Admittedly, not my favorite Vigor (those being Devil’s Kiss, Shock Jockey, and Return to Sender), but I loved the bottle so much when I first saw it.

And I’m still playing around with ink and watercolor. This actually has a little bit of colored pencil on top too, which was fun!

When I got Jon Gibson’s email inviting me to be a part of this year’s flagship show for iam8bit, I nearly freaked out (and responded immediately).

Here’s the teaser poster by Roberto Cecchi, with more details to come later (but its confidential for now). As of the moment, I’m doing at least three pieces for the show, one of which will be a collaboration with my little brother Brian!

There’s a park in my neighborhood with one of the largest Heron nesting sites in North America. I love walking by and seeing these freaky, freaky miniature dinosaur birds just hanging out.

Macro + Micro is wrapping up soon, so I wanted to share with you one of my favorite paintings from the show (and a longtime favorite artist) - Laura Bifano! I’ve always been a fan of her painting style, and her 8-bit animal paintings are all kinds of fantastic.

I believe that May 10th is the final day of the show, so if you’re looking for science-y and pretty prints, go here and get some!

So I finally got around to editing some of the photos I took from the Scorsese show, including the three pieces that I did! The opening night was an absolute madhouse, chockfull of way more people I could’ve ever expected, but it was incredible. I wanted to go for a kind of American money look, with shades of the Euro (which is vastly superior when it comes to visual appeal, seriously). Given the chance I’d probably redo Leo’s face, but alas. If you’re interested in owning the originals, they’re for sale on Spoke Art’s site. Forgot to mention - I have three portraits in tonight’s Scorsese show from Spoke Art and being hosted by Bold Hype Gallery in Chelsea. So exciting to work on these pieces, in colors and subjects I don’t usually focus on. Come drop by tonight or this weekend and say hello!

I was tremendously excited to be selected as a part of Light Grey Art Lab’s show Macro + Micro! I managed to sneak two pieces in to their Vegetables portion, seen here. My thought was to do something elemental, so I chose a Pomegranate to be Earth and a Lotus to be Water. Ideally I would do two more for Fire and Air (Anemones would have to be Air, but I’m still mulling Fire around)…

This was also a cool project for me personally because I played around with layering watercolor and making my own colors and textures. Hope you like! And if you do like, then are prints available for a limited time in LGAL’s shop!

I’ve been mulling this around for a while and I’m curious - should I start selling prints of my work? And any suggestions about what to print? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Are you going to be illustrating anymore Signature Shakespeare books? I bought all 4 and love them so much and can't wait to get the next installments (if there are any to come). If you are may I ask what plays they are? Thanks.

Thank you for reaching out to me. I’m sorry to say that due to pretty underwhelming sales, the series will not be continuing. At least not in the near future; Sterling has said they might be restart the series if the books sold well enough at some point.

I can tell you that before the cut-off, the plan was to publish A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest. The amount of foliage alone between the two of those plays had me salivating to illustrate them. I hope that one day I can dig in and start working on more of these books!

I was able to do a poster for the Silver Screen Society’s January movie - La Cité des Enfants Perdus (The City of Lost Children). It’s a very strange movie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the director of Amélie and A Very Long Engagement, and has some very sweet, strange moments to it (I especially like the interactions between One and Miette). I had the privilege of mentoring Andrea Wilson for the first semester of her senior year and we worked on a portfolio project of The Hobbit in cut-paper. I would covet the spot of the Arkenstone as if it were the real thing, seriously!
